Child Abuse
Child abuse is a
felony and is generally classified as a
crime involving danger to a person. Child abuse is the
infliction of physical or mental injury upon a child by an
intentional act that could reasonably be expected to result in
physical or mental injury to a child or by active encouragement
of any person to commit an act that results or could reasonably
be expected to result in physical or mental injury to a child.
Definitions and penalties vary by state and other factors
including whether or not the child suffered bodily harm, a
permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement. See Child
neglect and
endangering the
welfare of children
for related information.
