Burglary
Burglary is a crime against property. A person is
guilty of burglary if he or she enters
or remains unlawfully in
a dwelling, a structure, or a conveyance with the intent to
commit an offense therein, unless the premises are at the time
open to the public or the person is licensed or invited to
enter. Some states expand the definition to include the
intent to commit
a
felony,
theft, an
assault on any person,
lewdness,
sexual battery and
voyeurism against
a child.
Penalties vary by state and depend on the circumstances
including whether or not the person is armed with a dangerous
weapon, the type of crime or crimes actually committed, any
damage done to the physical structure and any harm done to any
person present.
